Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery
It is very common for the skin of both the upper eyelids and the lower eyelids to become lax as the years go by, and for the eyelids to look 'baggy' or to develop eyelid 'bags'. It is possible to restore a youthful appearance to the lids by removing the excess skin. At the same time, if the lids have a very full or bulgy appearance then it is possible to either remove or reposition some of the fatty tissue underneath the skin to further improve the appearance of the eyelids. This type of surgery can be performed with local anaesthetic, often with the addition of a sedative.
Non Cosmetic Eyelid Treatments
Wrinkle relaxing injections.
It is now well established that botulinum toxin A is extremely effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. Although they need to be repeated every 3-4 months, they help to maintain a youthful appearance. The injections are well tolerated by most people but topical anaesthetic cream is available to make the injections more comfortable if necessary.
Injectable Fillers.
Fillers have been developed to restore volume to skin which has become naturally depleted of its soft tissues. They are particularly effective around the eyes, forehead, mouth and lips. By subtly plumping up these tissues, a more youthful appearance is restored. The fillers need to be repeated every 9-12 months to maintain this effect.
