Lacrimal Drainage Surgery
Treatment for watery eyes
Many people suffer from watery eyes. This is often a temporary problem, in conditions such as hay fever. In some people, however, watery eyes are due to a permanent blockage of the tube draining the tears away from the eye and into the nose. Sometimes, the blockage is right at the start of the tear drainage tube, and a small operation is required to open the tube, allowing tears to drain away normally. However, if the blockage is deep with the drainage tube then an operation may be necessary to improve the situation.
Bypass the blockage
Lacrimal drainage surgery is usually performed under a general anaesthetic. The aim of the surgery is to bypass the blockage by allowing the tears to drain into the nose at a slightly higher level. This can make a noticeable difference to the 'watery eyes' problem which can be very debilitating.
